The Whiteadder River runs close to the village and offers excellent fishing, being a tributary of the Tweed. The surrounding countryside offers ample opportunities for the walker or cyclist.
Chirnside is proud to have been the birthplace of Jim Clark the former World Champion Formula One racing car driver who is buried in the Kirk opposite the pub.
David Hume, the Scottish Enlightenment philosopher, grew up close to the village at Ninewells, which is a short walk from the pub.
